Vancouver – The beauty of Canada

Vancouver – The beauty of Canada

The harmonious fusion of cosmopolitan metropolis and spectacular nature is what makes Vancouver one of the most appealing cities in the world. A regular award-winner and recipient of abundant praise for its high quality of living, Vancouver is especially popular among world travellers, culture revellers and sports fans. The deep-blue Pacific Ocean at your feet and the backdrop of the snow-capped peaks of the coast range will definitely make your holiday a unique experience.

Timeless beauty - a holiday in Vancouver

Start the day with a large breakfast: waffles drenched in maple syrup, bacon & eggs and a cup of tea are the perfect introduction to a city that plays in the first league in cultural affairs. The West Coast cuisine is a delicious fusion of fresh seafood and fish dishes complemented by French-Asian influences. Just like most everyday activities in Vancouver, food is preferably savoured and enjoyed outdoors in the fresh air.

Skiing on the slopes in the morning, a game of golf or a walk in Stanley Park at lunch time and sailing off into the sunset in the evening: Vancouver provides for all of this!

Sights in Canada

In Vancouver, skyscraper canyons and beach fun are not an oxymoron, but simply the setting of a city where casualness corresponds to lifestyle.

The history of Vancouver is founded on a tavern in 1867 when an Englishman called Jack Deighton (‘Gassy’) realised that the closest existing tavern was miles away. He managed to get the workers of the Hastings Mill to help him build the tavern by offering them free drinks. Within a very short time the village of Gastown was established around the Globe Saloon.

Tolerance and oneness with nature are characteristic of cosmopolitan Vancouver. Take a stroll through China Town or along Commercial Drive and expect to see a wide range of unusual shops ranging from espresso bars to off-beat esoteric shops. In Vancouver, beach fun and landmarks are literally cheek-by-jowl.

Vancouver - metropolis with a breathtaking panorama

Vancouver‘s cultural variety has something to suit every taste. Renowned publishing houses have their headquarters in Vancouver, and poetry slams constitute an integral part of the city’s literary scene. Musicians such as Bryan Adams and Diana Krall have their roots in Vancouver. Nowhere else in Canada is the stage spectrum more innovative. The streets are lined with a plethora of galleries and the film industry is one of the city’s most important economic factors. Vancouver is considered to be the most important film production centre in North America after Los Angeles and New York.

Young, urban and stunningly beautiful – Vancouver is most definitely worth more than one visit!

Speciality Vancouver

Maple syrup, Canada’s sweetest secret

A wonderfully sweet temptation: Canadian maple syrup. The maple, a Canadian symbol which is eternalised as such on the national ‘Maple Leaf Flag’, is what gives the thick syrup its unique flavour. On average, it takes 40 litres of juice to produce one litre of this rich golden-coloured liquid of which every drop is pure indulgence. Discovered originally by the indigenous people of North America, maple syrup tastes particularly good with buttery waffles, sweet-flavoured pancakes and creamy ice cream. A natural sweetener that also contains valuable minerals. Simply delicious!
