Sporting equipment
To a restricted extent, the transport of sporting equipment (surfboards, bicycles etc.) is possible on our flights.
We offer attractive rates if you register your sporting equipment online on our website. An online registration is possible up to 4 days prior to departure.
Members of the SWISS Golf Traveller may check in 1 set of golfing equipment (max. 23 kg) free of charge.
On flights to Canada, Edelweiss transports your fishing rod (packed in a plastic tube) free of charge.
We advise to pack bicycles and / or sport equipment carefully and appropriately, Edelweiss assumes no liability for any damaged baggage contents.
Your checked sports equipment is free of charge if within your free baggage allowance. If your free baggage allowance is exceeded by either the weight per piece or amount of pieces, following special sports charges apply. Edelweiss does not accept sports equipment of more than 32kgs.

In addition to the standard baggage allowance, passengers are permitted to carry 1 set of ski equipment up to 23 kg for free. (Small Children under 2 years of age are exempt from this rule.)
Ski / Snow Equipment is considered to consist of 1 pair of ski, 1 pair of poles and 1 pair of boots or 1 snowboard and 1 pair of boots.

General restriction
The transport of firearms is subject to IATA Resolution 745a. The import into, export out of or transport over (air carriage) Switzerland of firearms and ammunition classified as war material is prohibited.
The transport of military arms is prohibited. The transport of firearms and ammunition with explosive or flammable projectiles is prohibited. Any firearms or ammunition admitted to transport must be carried as checked baggage. Carriage in the cabin is not permitted. The transport of firearms and ammunition is at the responsibility of the passenger. Many countries have even more stringent laws and regulations than Switzerland which would override the regulations of Edelweiss.
Acceptance of firearms
The following firearms are approved for transport in the cargo hold:
- Sport pistol, sport revolver, sport rifle
- Hunting rifle
Packing of firearms
The following packing restrictions must be observed for firearms:
- All firearms must be unloaded
- Firearms must be packed in a hard-sided container (wood, metal, fibrous material, polystyrene etc.)
Acceptance of ammunition
Ammunition is considered a hazardous good. Therefore, acceptance is limited:
- Only ammunition of small-calibre sporting weapons shall be accepted and transported in the cargo hold.
- Transport of ammunition must be reported to the airline (services@flyedelweiss.com)
The amount of ammunition is limited to 5kg per person in its original packaging.
Packing of ammunition
The ammunition must be:
- packed separately from the firearm
- packed in a robust container (wood, metal, fibrous material)
- protected inside the container so as to withstand vibration, shock and movement
- be securely packed so that there can be no accidental ignition

Underwater torches
Heat-generating items (such as underwater torches) are only permitted in carry-on luggage.
In this respect, a form from the cantonal police must be completed for the security check at Zurich Airport.
